Obituary for PORTER

Garland Lee Porter, Jr., born in Borger, Texas in 1937, passed away in his home August 5, 2007. He joins in Heaven those who have gone before: his parents, Garland Sr. and Margurette Porter and his first wife, Wanda Allyne Shepard Porter. Garland spent his career in the oil business in Texas and New Mexico and he touched many lives along the way. Garland leaves behind family and friends who will miss his love and wisdom. He is survived by his wife Marina de Vos Porter - who brought the song back; his sisters, LaDonna Porter, Frankie Thurston, Ronda Stoddard and husband, Chuck; sisters-in-law, Faith Kennedy and husband, Kent, and Velda Gass and husband, Leon; son, David Porter and wife, Crystal; daughter, Mindy Holmes and husband, Mike; daughter, Margo Volkmer and husband, Erik, step-son, Brian Lockhart and wife, Tina; aunt and uncle, Marie and Bub Tate; and all the grandchildren who were the light of his life: Katie Gist, Jeremy Tipton, Cameron Tipton, Lane Volkmer, Dalton Volkmer, Kelsey Holmes, Ethan Holmes, Shelby Lockhart, Myles Lockhart, and Camden Lockhart. His loss leaves a hole in our hearts. We'll miss you, Pa. A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Daniels Family Funeral Home. Services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul NE, in Albuquerque at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2007. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, or to the charity of your choice.
