June Gillett died July 27, 2007 of heart disease. She was born near Eaton Rapids, MI on January 11, 1917. She was preceded in death by Ivan, her husband of 66 years. She is survived by her five children, Carolyn McBane of Phoenix, Margy Scales of Colorado Springs, John Gillett of Estancia, Kathie Esquibel of Albuquerque, and Dan Gillett of Sandia Park, as well as 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. As a Navy couple, June and Ivan lived on both coasts, and many places in between, from 1935 to 1956. They settled in Sandia Park where they lived for the next 46 years. June enjoyed gardening, birding, walking and observing and enjoying nature. She was a voracious reader of non-fiction, and took delight in the beauty of poetry and the written and spoken word.
