Obituary for OLIVAS

Olivar "Jiggs" Olivas, 94, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Jiggs was born on May 1, 1913 to Cipriano and Mary Sena Olivas in Santa Rosa, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fabiola; parents; sisters, Amalia O. Saiz and Delfina O. Maez. Jiggs is survived by his sisters, Ophelia O. Smith, of San Diego, CA, and Maria O. Woodruff and husband, Loy, of Cornersville, TN; brother, Anthony Olivas, of San Francisco, CA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved and admired him. He was a dedicated and active member of Queen of Heaven Parish for many decades. During WWII, Jiggs served in the Navy. He worked in many capacities for the New Mexico Employment Security Department for over 44 years. Jiggs was a management systems analyst when he retired in 1979. He loved photography and shot and developed 16mm movies, 35mm and 3D photos, as well as video tapes. Jiggs also liked to keep up on the latest music recording technology. He and his wife, Fabiola had no children of their own, but they opened their home to brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces to stay there while they attended school or were in Albuquerque for medical attention. Together and individually, Jiggs and Fabiola were gracious and generous. A Rosary will be recited Sunday, July 29, 5:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 30, 2007, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Church, 5310 Claremont NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Friends may visit French Mortuary on Sunday, July 29, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Center, P.O.
