Obituary for NELSON

Lloyd Spencer Nelson, Ph.D., passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the age of 83. He was born in Chicago, IL, in 1924, the only child of Elsie and Roy Nelson. After serving as a naval officer in World War II, he graduated with a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. In that campus's chapel, he wed Lorna Manney in 1948. Dr. Nelson worked in high-temperature metals research at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey and at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque. After retirement from Sandia Labs, he continued as a scientific researcher at the University of Wisconsin and as a consultant. Lifelong interests included family, music, gardening, Boy Scouts of America, Indian Guides, Band Boosters, world affairs, and photography. Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Lorna Manney Nelson; four sons: David and wife, Linda; Evan and wife, Debora Veseth, all of Roswell, NM; Jeff and wife, Sharon of Milwaukie, OR; Milton and his wife, Carolyn of West Hills, CA; and one daughter, Georgia McKinney (born Ardis) of Ojai, CA. Lloyd also leaves behind grandsons, Adrian and Kelsey Veseth-Nelson, of Roswell, NM; five other grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who live in other states.
