Obituary for FINLEY

Faye Rogers Finley, 85, died peacefully in Albuquerque on May 27, 2007. She was born on November 7, 1921 to James and Mabel Rogers in Socorro, New Mexico. She married Chuck Finley in Bernalillo on October 17, 1942. Chuck was a teacher and basketball coach for both Socorro High School and the New Mexico School of Mines. The Finley family left Socorro and moved to Moscow, Idaho and then to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, following Chuck's college coaching career. Faye earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and later attained her Master's degree at New Mexico Highlands University. Faye taught business courses at Socorro High School until her retirement in 1986. Faye enjoyed travel and being with her granddaughters. She was an avid reader and had a great sense of humor. She leaves many dear friends in Socorro and throughout New Mexico. Faye was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Socorro, and a long standing member of PEO and the American Association of University Women. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and her sister, Margaret Smith. She is survived by her son, Charles R. Finley, daughter-in-law, Patricia Finley and two granddaughters, Shannon and Elizabeth of Los Lunas, New Mexico, sister Jessie Stanley of Farmington, New Mexico, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. at First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque, 3701 Carlisle NE. Faye will be buried with her husband at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe in a private service. Donations may be made in Faye's memory to the UNM Foundation, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, for scholarship funds for the College of Education.
