Obituary for SANCHEZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday June 02, 2007

Estevan Sanchez was 86 and passed away on May 30, 2007. Born in Penasco, NM, February 10, 1921, later moved his family to Albuquerque in 1968. Estevan married surviving wife, Maclovia Mascarenas on November 26, 1941, a marriage lasting for 65 years. Estevan's family included two brothers, Gilbert and Benjamin Sanchez; four sisters, Rose, Charlotta, Elisa, and Doris. He is survived by seven children: Henry and wife, Tivie Sanchez from Penasco; Laura and husband, Manny Ochoa from Albuquerque; Harvey and wife, Lillian Sanchez from Houston, TX; Marie and husband, Greg Marez from Las Cruces; JoAnn and husband, Jim Risinger from Albuquerque; daughter, Bernice Sanchez from Albuquerque; and Michael and wife, Catherine Sanchez from Albuquerque. Estevan enjoyed visiting and having with him his 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A beloved husband and father, a man loved by his wife Maclovia, and his seven children more than life itself. Caring for them all, with his over loving ways included teaching them the meaning of respect, integrity and loyalty. Estevan loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing in his hometown of Penasco or his love for watching sports. While growing up during the depression era, Estevan was recruited for the Conservation Camp (CC-Camp) in Vallecitos, NM. While working with the CC-Camp he also learned the furniture craftsman trade where he made furnishings for the family. Estevan grew up with a passion for Spanish music and learned the guitar. He would play in a band from time to time in the Penasco and Dixon hometown areas. Estevan served his country in WWII in Germany with the U.S. Army and was proud of his service. We as a family will miss our husband and father until we meet again - and love him as Daddy and Grandpa. Family and friends will attend Services at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, 764-9663.
