Obituary for CHAVEZ

Manuel Chavez, 83, of Albuquerque passed away on May 22, 2007 in Albuquerque. Manuel was born on August 20, 1923 in Raton, New Mexico to Felipe and Pablita Paiz Chavez. During his childhood he resided in Raton. Being very patriotic, Manuel joined the US Army at the age of 16 years and was a survivor of the December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. He was involved in four beach landings while serving overseas in WWII. He received Commando training in Australia and was discharged as a sergeant. After the military Manuel worked in the coal and uranium mines in the Raton area. In 1951 he moved to California and resided there until 1995. While in California he worked as a foreman in construction industry and was a very successful nightclub owner. Manuel was a very devoted Husband and Father and is survived by his wife Clara, his daughter Mary Canizales and husband Saul, two sons Manuel and Arthur, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great- grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday May 29, 2007, with a Vigil service and Rosary at 7:00 PM at Reflections Funerals and Life Celebrations Chapel 2400 Washington St. Funeral Mass will be at 9:00 AM on Wednesday May 30, 2007 at St. Joseph’s on the Rio Grande with burial to follow at 1:00 PM at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers for will be, Adrian Leon, Arturo Chavez, Ramon Chavez, Edward Jimenez, Saul A. Canizales and Saul Canizales. Honorary Pallbearers for Manuel will be, Raymond Chavez and Eddie Jimenez.
