June Gwendolyn Scussel, 88, of Columbia, MO, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, May 21, 2007 at Lenoir Skilled Nursing Facility. June was born on May 12, 1919 in Denver, CO, the daughter of the late Judge G.C. Olsen and Helen Marie (Gallagher) Olsen. She attended high school in Kermit, TX and Texas State College for Women, now Texas Women's University in Denton, TX. June was the co-owner of a restaurant in Pyote, TX during World War II and retired from the Civil Service Industry, where she spent many dedicated years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, active in the Widows' Person Group, and was an avid Bridge player. Living most of her life in Albuquerque, NM she loved all things about the Southwest, from the people and the art to the beautiful balloon festivals. She was united in marriage to the late Robert Scussel, who proceeded her in death on April 25, 1981. Survivors include her daughter, Patrice Vale and her husband, L. Kenneth; granddaughter, Michelle and her husband, Adam, all of Columbia; and great-grandchildren, Britany Montgomery, Kenny Montgomery, Robert Betts, and Andrew Baggett. In addition to her parents and husband, one sister, Peggy Sanders, preceded her in death. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Memorial Funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in New Mexico.
