Martin Schweighardt passed peacefully away at home on May 14, 2007. He was born on December 25, 1917 in Passaic, NJ and relocated to Albuquerque upon retirement in 1984. He is survived by his partner - brother of over fifty years, Philip Ciofalo; sister-in-law, Erma Schweighardt; and his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Andrew; his sisters, Mary and Ann. Martin was the sole sibling survivor. He was active in sports and won second place in Roller Skating Ballroom Dancing in New Jersey and sixth place nationwide in 1937. He was active in teaching activities at several schools in New Jersey which were interrupted by his service in World War II, mostly in the European and African campaigns. His travels spanned over 100 foreign countries and cities. He was an avid self-styled at-home "Chef", and realized his dream in September 2000 at age 82, in Florence, Italy, where he received his diploma from the School of Culinary Arts, Scuola Di Arte Culinaria - Cordon Blue, in Italian cooking. He touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. Philip Ciofalo would like to extend his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff at the Albuquerque Heart Institute and during his last months to the Heartland Hospice.
