After retiring from federal service, she lived for a short time in Bosque Farms, and then returned to Albuquerque. She served as a Commissioner on the New Mexico State Board of Higher Education. She cherished the friends she made while working on the Navajo reservation and while in Albuquerque. She enjoyed hiking, skiing, and playing with her grandchildren in recent years. Cole; her grandchildren Sierra and Haley Cole, Katie and Allie Noble and Cassady Sky Dabau; her sister, Dixie L. Johnson; and her nephews, Ben and Brad Rosenblum.
