Obituary for HURLEY

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 13, 2007

Patricia Hurley, 86, died at her home in Albuquerque on May 5, 2007. She was a daughter of General Patrick J. Hurley, who served as Secretary of War under President Herbert Hoover and was later appointed U.S. Ambassador to China and Ruth Wilson Hurley. Ms. Hurley herself had a long and successful career as a lecturer on foreign affairs that took her to all four corners of the globe. In 1987 she moved to Albuquerque where she opened a gift shop with her daughter, Patricia. In recent years, she worked as a volunteer for Vistacare, a hospice organization. She enjoyed providing comfort and adventure by sharing her stories with those she visited. Ms. Hurley is survived by two daughters, Patricia Pelham of Albuquerque, and Michaela Hope Lawrence, of New York City; two granddaughters, Patrice Pelham and Pier Prestridge, both of California; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Wilson Hurley, of Albuquerque. She is predeceased by a daughter, Andrea, who died in 1991. Her next glorious adventure has just begun. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Cancer Society of New Mexico.
