Arthur K. Orrmont, author, literary agent and editor, died April 10, 2007 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a long illness. He was born in Albany, New York on July 3, 1922. Mr. Orrmont began his undergraduate education at the University of Alabama but completed it at the University of Michigan after he was discharged from the United States Army. At the University of Michigan he won three Avery Hopwood Awards for short-story writing (1943-45), and in 1999 was invited to judge the same competition. He did graduate work in English at Cornell University. A published writer since his teens, he became an editorial department head at Farrar, Straus & Co (1945-51), senior editor at Popular Library (1951-55), and then executive editor at Fawcett Books (1955-57). For a decade he freelanced himself and then, in 1967, he founded Author Aid Associates, a literary agency which he headed until 2004. In 1970-72, he edited the National Hall of Fame Biography Series. Mr. Orrmont became vice president of Research Associates International, a publisher of reference books about the publishing industry, a post which he held from 1980-1997. From 1982-97, he was co-editor (with Leonie Rosenstiel) of Literary Agents of North America, a reference book that went through five editions. He also produced a dozen other book-length works as well as numerous articles and short stories. Best known of his nonfiction books are Love Cults and Faith Healers (1961), Last Train over Rostov Bridge (with Captain Marion Aten, Royal Air Force; 1962), Action Priest (with Father Joseph Lauro,1970) and Requiem for War: The Life of Wilfred Owen (1972). Mr. Orrmont was a member of the Association of Literary Critics and Scholars. He is survived by his wife, the former Leonie Rosenstiel of Albuquerque; a sister, Naomi Kruvant, of South Orange, New Jersey; and four nephews.
