Obituary for FUGIT

Maria Fugit, 78, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, friends, and the caring team from Hospice of New Mexico on the morning of April 29, 2007. She was born in Munich, Germany and was raised in Augsburg, Germany. She has been a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1952. Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Paul Fugit and her parents, Max and Josepha Mayer of Augsburg, Germany. An incredible artist and draftsman, she was employed by numerous firms including the City of Albuquerque. She truly loved and embraced life and lived to dance, paint, and work in the garden. She was an active founding member of The Edelweiss AM Rio Grande German-American Club and Paradise Hills Country Club. She could frequently be found dancing at Bear Canyon and Highland Senior Centers where she met her dear friend, Alan K. Douglass. She was one of the most generous and compassionate people you would ever meet and always lit-up a room upon entering it. She was so dearly loved by so many. Maria is survived by her son, Dr. Randolph V. Fugit; daughter-in-law, Lisa K. Fugit; grandsons, William J. Fugit and Sean P. Fugit; dearest friend, Alan K. Douglass; cousin, Sophie Mayer; and numerous relatives and very close friends. A Memorial Service and celebration of Maria's wonderful life will take place on her birthday, Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at The Edelweiss AM Rio Grande German-American Club, 4821 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, phone (505) 888-4833.
