Obituary for SHEPPERD

Marshall "Gene" Eugene Shepperd, age 78, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 28, 2007. He was born February 3, 1929 in Roswell, NM. Gene was the much beloved baby boy of J.B. Sr. "Bud" and Ethel Shepperd. He was dotted on by predeceased sisters, Lois Willis, Eula Havens, Pauline Flemings; and brothers, Arlington Priest, Paul, and J. B. While attending school in Clovis, NM he met Opal Hathorn. They married in March of 1948. They were blessed with three children, Judy, married to Bob Jacobson, Jim, engaged to Kelly Moore, Debbie, married to Bill Brewer. Gene served our country as a Sargeant in the United States Air Force, stationed in England during the Korean conflict. After the military his professions included: rancher, service station manager/owner, salesman and co-owner of B & G Construction. After 30 years of marriage Opal passed away in May 1978. One cup of coffee led to another and Gene met the second love of his life, Beverly Curlee. Gene and Bev married in November 1980. Bev brought seven adult children into the family: Tim Curlee, Toni Orion-Santini, married to Robin Aurthor, Sherri Meadows, married to Tim Copeland, predeceased by Patti Lutz, Jeri, married to Al Sinclair, Bobbie, married to Ron McDonald, and Judi, married to Greg Eccles. Being a Dad and a Grandad was one of his most cherished roles. Bev and Gene retired to Veguita, NM to their horses and landscape gardening. After 25 years of marriage, in 2005 Gene lost his beloved Bev. Gene is survived by nine children; 23 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at the Latter- day Saints Church in Rio Communities on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
