Felton Wells Bingham, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on May 3, 2007. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Eddine Marie Lawson; son, Bryan and wife, Patricia; daughter, Shannon and husband, Marc Workman; daughter, Lacey; daughter, Leigh; four granddaughters: Shelby Bingham Workman, Reid Bingham Workman, Alice Lawson Bingham, and Ivy Haynes Bingham; brother, Paul and wife, Linda; sister, Winifred Quinzi and husband, Tony; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was born on August 18, 1935 in Greenville, MS, to Edith Winifred Wells and Felton Louis Bingham. He grew up in Vicksburg, MS until his family moved to Metairie, LA when he was in the 10th grade. He took a degree in Physics (Phi Beta Kappa) at Tulane and an M.S. and PhD in Physics at Indiana University in 1962. He met and married Eddine at IU. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories from 1964 until his retirement in 1999. He did significant work in atomic collisions, gas lasers, and environmental science related to hazardous waste disposal sites such as WIPP and Yucca Mountain. He was in the first group to receive the title "Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff." He was a man of many interests. He had a wonderful memory for poetry and the written word. He was a good pianist and instilled a love of music in his children. He studied music, art, literature, history, and linguistics. He published two genealogical studies of his and his wife's families. He spent many hours creating a serene and beautiful Southwestern garden, including his favorite roses; he did, however, dislike mowing the lawn. He enjoyed traditional celebrations and loved trimming the Christmas tree, which he insisted come from Mora, NM. He appreciated family meals and always had room for dessert. He was cheerful and amiable and he showed his love for his family daily. He wrote that he was the luckiest person he knew. He was never unkind. We who loved him will miss him very much. His many in-laws, scattered across the country, also miss him and share in our sorrow. A visitation will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE on Sunday, May 6 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.leukemiafundraising.com or 3411 Candelaria NE Suite M, Albuquerque, NM 87107) or the charity of your choice.
