Ernest Edgar "Ernie" Royster went to be with Jesus April 30, 2007 at the age of 89. Ernie was born in White City, KS, May 7, 1917. He met his sweetheart, Zelma, in the third grade and their love for each other spanned almost 83 years. They were raised in Michigan, and settled in Albuquerque in 1949. He owned Albuquerque Floor & Wall Tile Company until his retirement in 1979, whereupon, Zelma and Ernie traveled around the U.S. for many years. At 14, Ernie committed his life to Christ at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Carbondale, IL. He served in the Independent Christian Churches as an elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a charter member of the New Mexico Gun Collectors Association and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. Known as a man of integrity and kindness, he will be missed by many; actually anyone who ever met him. He was preceded in death by a son, David in 1981. Ernie is survived by his wife, Zelma; sons, Ronald and his wife, Kay of Albuquerque, Thomas and his wife, Sherry of California; daughter-in-law, Libby of Florida; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Birdsall of Albuquerque; half-siblings, Margaret Armstrong of Florida and Jack Blakney of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of new life will be at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Rd. NE, Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastors Don Wilson and Leroy B. Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
