Obituary for SOTO

Henry W. Soto, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 1978, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007. Born September 11, 1918 in New York City, Henry was the son of Maximiliano Francisco Soto and Miriam Hanah (Swarts) Soto and the grandson of Dr. Marco Aurelio Soto, president of Honduras from 1876 to 1883. He was a graduate of Columbia High School in South Orange/Maplewood, NJ. An avid tennis player in his youth, Henry was a member of the Jr. Davis Cup team and with his doubles partner won the National Indoor Junior Doubles Championship in 1934, and later played against such tennis notables as Don Budge and Poncho Seguras. Henry was a Bronze Star recipient, having served with the 76th Infantry in the European Theater in WWII. After moving to Goshen, NY, Henry joined United Delco as a dealer sales representative, retiring after 27 years of service. He was also a member of the Orange County Golf Club where he scored a hole-in-one, and later a member of the Rio Rancho Country Club. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, "Prudy"; brothers, Marco Aurelio Soto III and Maximiliano Francisco Soto Jr.; and oldest son of Marco Aurelio Soto IV. He is survived by sons, George T. Soto of Albuquerque, Edward C. Soto and wife, Pam of Chesterfield, VA, and Henry Bruce Soto and wife, Lynne of Whitefish Bay, WI; as well as grandson, Marco W. Fox of Honesdale, PA; and great-grandson, John Everett of Matamoras, PA. Henry's ashes will be placed with those of his wife in the Rose Garden at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho on Saturday, April 14, 2007.
