Esther M. Schmidt, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, April 1, 2007. She is survived by her children, Mary Lawrence of Niles, MI, Joseph Schmidt, II and wife, LaVaughan, of Arvada, CO, and Jo Ann Schmidt of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Todd Lawrence, Curtis Lawrence, Ashley McDiarmid and husband, Travis, Heather Schmidt and Shannon Lawrence; one great-granddaughter, Sage McDiarmid; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Paul Schmidt in 1971; sister, Agnes Osborn; and brother, Bill Osborn and his wife, Louise. She was born on August 29, 1915 in Benton Harbor, MI to James P. and Hilda A. Knoener Osborn. Esther graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1933 and married Joe Schmidt on December 31, 1940. She worked for the Selective Service System until retiring in 1980. At that time, she moved to Albuquerque and began a second career as an aerobics instructor for the Office of Senior Affairs, primarily at the Palo Duro Senior Center. Esther retired for the second time in 2000. She loved exercising, encouraging others to exercise and spending time chatting with her friends, over a cup of coffee, at McDonalds. Esther was a loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
