Obituary for ROBINSON

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday March 22, 2007

Zelpha Marie Robinson passed away at age 97 in Houston, TX, on March 15, 2007. Marie was born February 28, 1910, 40 miles outside Kermit, Winkler County, TX, on the Cowden Ranch, the daughter of Homer Cyrus Jackson and Elizabeth Jane Hill. She moved to Gran Quivera, NM, in June of 1917. She learned to ride a horse by the time she was 10 and spent the next eight years exploring the countryside with her husband-to-be. She was married to the late Loy Austin Robinson in 1928 in Carrizozo, NM. This union lasted 76 years, until Loy's death 3 years ago, and produced three children, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her four surviving children are: Corine Smith of Nevada, Delbert Robinson of Albuquerque, Annie Neill of Houston, TX, and Jerry Robinson of Denver, CO. Marie and Loy moved to Albuquerque in the 1940s and lived there until they retired to Cedarvale, NM, where they lived until moving to Houston in 2004 to the home of their daughter, Annie and her husband, Bruce. Marie was the ultimate, wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She was warm and loving, always ready to share her skills and items of crochet, tatting, quilting, or cooking. She was happy to stay up all hours of the night playing pinochle with her husband and her children. She was a caring, loving, homey, down-to-earth woman who loved her life, her husband, her children, and their progeny. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Funeral Services will be held at the Tabernacle Campground on the north side of Hwy 60 at Limit Road in Mountainair at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2007 (formerly Assembly of God Campground). Her body will be laid to rest next to her husband's in the family plot at Mathews' Cemetery in Mountainair. After interment a luncheon will be held in her memory at the Christian Center on Hwy 60 in Mountainair. Food should be dropped off from 9:30 a.m. and after. Flowers may be sent to the Harris-Handlon Mortuary in Moriarty or a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
