Obituary for CAPPEL

Russel F. Cappel, age 88, a dynamic and notable figure in New Mexico political circles and state government, died peacefully February 10, 2007 at his home in Santa Fe with his family present. His public service includes elected office as a state legislator from Socorro County and serving as an officer during many legislative sessions and the New Mexico Constitutional Convention. He was also a candidate for New Mexico Lieutenant Governor. He retired from the State Highway Department in 1984. His family will remember him as a caring, loving, and generous man. They loved him dearly and will miss him sorely. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rena M. Cappel; sons, John W. Miller of Santa Fe and Rick H. Miller (wife, Patrice) of Albuquerque; and daughter, DeAnna Esponda (husband, Oscar) of Antioch, CA. Cremation and a brief family commemoration has taken place. At Mr. Cappel's request, no other services will be held. Please direct memorial donations to any local teen shelter or to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter in his name.
