Obituary for HAMMAR

Dennis Arthur Hammar, age 53, died suddenly on January 26, 2007 in Salinas, California. He was born September 13, 1953, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of H. Gordon Hammar and Shirley M. Hammar. He grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Sherman, Texas, graduating from Sherman High School. He obtained an Associates Degree in Air Traffic Control and worked as a controller for the FAA. He would later obtain a BS from the University of San Francisco and an MBA from the College of Santa Fe. After leaving the FAA, he worked in retail hardware sales, including as manager of Eddy Hammar Hardware, a family business in Albuquerque. At the time of his death, he was living and working on the Monterey peninsula which he loved. He enjoyed fast cars, fishing, boating, camping, skiing, good food, movie going and walking with his Australian sheep dogs, Maya and Socks. The best of him lives on in his beloved daughters, Christian and Caitlin who survive him along with their mother, Nancy Landskroener. Also surviving him are his mother, Shirley M. Hammar and his brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Kathy Hammar, all of Albuquerque, and his Carmel family, Patricia, Kate, Brian and Traci McEldowney. Cremation after tissue donation has already occurred. A private family service has also occurred. May God grant him serenity and peace.
