Obituary for CARANTA

James Robert Caranta, born June 20, 1921 in Monero, NM, passed peacefully after a short illness early Monday morning. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; only son, Robert (Robbie) and Robert's partner in life, Lois Wetherill; grandchildren, Christopher Caranta, Carissa Caranta and friend, Jerrel Bryant, Cassandra Holsten and husband, LCpl. Jeremy Holsten, USMC, Christina Caranta, Joshua Hacker and wife, Megan, and their daughter, Haylee Autumn; nieces and nephews, Martha Ann, Marcelle, Barney Pierre, Taffy, Claudette, Johnny, Irene, Bernadette, Joe Barney and Mary Francis; and many great nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his mother, father, and all of his siblings. Youngest child of seven born to Barney Caranta and Annie Aimo, Jimmy was raised in the beautiful country of northern New Mexico. He attended St. Michaels College in Santa Fe where he was active in all sports and joined the Navy shortly after school. It was during this service he met Margaret. Jimmie and Margaret were married in 1946 and soon settled in Albuquerque. James spent the bulk of his working career at Kirtland Air Force Base as a civil servant. James was active in the Elks Club, American Legion Post 49, Knights of Columbus and the German-American Club. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, February 12, 2007, 7:00 p.m., at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria Rd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, 10:30 a.m., at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friends may visit on Monday, February 12, 2007, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Children's Hospital of NM, 2211 Lomas NE, Albuquerque, 87106, St. Jude Children's Hospital, 505 N.
