Obituary for MARTINEZ

Jose Feliz Martinez, 80, husband, provider, father, grandfather, brother and friend was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 24, 2007. He was born on July 29, 1926 to Jose F. Martinez and Tomasita Saiz Martinez in Albuquerque, NM. Jose loved his wife of 57 years, Ferminia; son, Joe Martinez and wife, Sherry of Tennessee; two daughters: Barbara and husband, Michael Velasquez; Ruth and husband, Tom Montoya; one sister, Edwina Martinez. He loved and was proud of his grandchildren: Seth and Austin Martinez, Alyssa Velasquez, Matthew and Jesse Montoya. He graduated from Albuquerque High School; received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Joseph University and a Master's Degree from UNM. He loved and was known for his devotion to teaching and helping elementary aged children learn. He taught in New Mexico at Seboyeta, Cubero, Santo Domingo, San Mateo, and Bernalillo. He was a principal at Cubero and San Mateo and retired from Bernalillo Public Schools as a Elementary Reading Specialist. He loved to keep busy and enjoyed being a handy man. He enjoyed buying and trading at the flea market. He was great at find bargains and treasures. He was inventive and creative and loved to tinker, make jewelry and could fix anything. He enjoyed taking trips to Juarez, visiting the Mercado, talking with the people and bargaining. He also enjoyed camping at Jemez and Pecos. After a fall from his roof left him a paraplegic, he remained independent and active. He returned to teaching and became a substitute teacher at Albuquerque Public Schools. He and his wife continued to take road trips to visit his son and family, in Tennessee; to Disneyland, with his daughter and family and numerous trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV. He loved dogs; his favorites were BeBe, Ginger, and Dusty. A man noticed him mowing his lawn and asked if he could bring a depressed, young military paraplegic to watch him for inspiration. He will be greatly missed. "One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His Temple." Psalm 27:4. Cremation has taken place and private Services have been held.
