JOYCE Memorial Services for Joyce Ricketts, 82, of Canadian, TX will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canadian, TX, with Rev. Ed Cooley officiating. A private inurnment Service will be at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Ricketts passed away January 18, 2007 in Amarillo, TX. Joyce was born on April 20, 1924 in Claude, TX to the late Mr. Wayne A. McMurry and Mrs. Eva Ann Powell McMurry. She attended grammar school in Claude, TX and graduated in 1942 from Memphis High School. She then went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Religious Education in 1950 from Phillips University in Enid, OK. She married Glenn W. Ricketts on June 15, 1949 in Lubbock, TX. They moved to Canadian, TX on August 12, 1999 from Albuquerque, NM. Joyce was an integral part of her husband's ministry in the Disciples of Christ church. The highlight of her professional life was her work as registrar of two colleges: College of Artesia in Artesia, NM and St. John's College in Santa Fe, NM. In addition to being a minister's wife, and a minister in her own right, she continued her joy of working with people as a real estate agent for 12 years in Albuquerque, NM. Joyce was a current member of Chapter I PEO and has been an active PEO member for 50 years. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Ricketts and a granddaughter, Gwyn Ricketts. She is survived by her husband, Glenn W. Ricketts of Canadian, TX; one son, Doug Ricketts and wife, Cathy of Lipscomb, TX; one sister, Nora Phillips of Lake Kiowa, TX; a sister-in-law, Catharine Russell of Hereford, TX; one granddaughter, Lindsay Ricketts of Saratoga, WY; and a host of loving family and friends. The family suggests memorials be to your favorite Educational Program Scholarship Fund or to One Great Hour of Sharing, in care of First Presbyterian Church, 605 Purcell Ave., Canadian, TX 79014.
