Obituary for WALKER

William E. "Bill" Walker, 80, an Albuquerque resident since 1954, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2007. Born December 29, 1926 in Minden, LA. He spent most of his youth in Texas. He attended Texas A&M where he played football and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. His college career was briefly interrupted to serve in the Army during the end of WWII. Upon graduation he worked for GE in the northeast before his love of the outdoors lured him out west to Albuquerque to work at Sandia Labs. His 34 years as a rocket scientist/engineer at Sandia took him all over the world. Bill was a devoted husband and family man who loved to hunt and fish in the wilds of New Mexico and Colorado with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Bill Walker and wife, Miyako of Carrollton, TX, David, Jeff and wife, Robin of Albuquerque; step-children, Chris Blodgett and wife, Nancy, Katherine and Maureen; five granddaughters, Jessica Schommer, Julie Weiss, Sadie Pettigrew, Lindsay Blodgett and Robyn Walker; three great-grandchildren, Theo Schommer, Maddie Weiss and Jenna Weiss; sister, Mary Williams; and brother, Charles Walker. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at Desert Springs Church, 705 Osuna NE.
