Ernesto Lionel "Leo" Chavez, age 85, was born November 10, 1921. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 after a long illness. Ernesto was born to Francisco and Tomasita Chavez in Cuba, NM. Ernesto Honorably served in U.S. Army during WWII, was a life member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was married to his wife, Antonia, of almost 61 years and raised a daughter, Adelaida. Ernesto is survived by his wife, Antonia Chavez; daughter, Adelaida Padilla; sister, Lilly Martinez; grandchildren, Timothy Padilla and wife, Marguerite, Carla Glidewell and husband, Shad, Roberta Cohen and husband, Thomas, Susan Padilla-Reina and husband, Michael and Jessica Padilla; great-grandchildren, Lance Padilla and Daniel Masse, Lynnsey and Rhegan Glidewell, Aundria Cohen, and Evan Reina; sisters-in-law, Percilla Christilaw, Albertina Carabajal and husband, Gilberto; numerous nieces and nephews whom all loved and admired him. He will be greatly missed by all. A Memorial Rosary will be held on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, New Mexico as well as a Funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 2:30 p.m. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST.
