Fred Calvin Roberts, 86, a loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 7, 2007, surrounded by his family. Fred was born November 3, 1920, in Hayden, NM to the late Surry C. and Neoma Shields Roberts. He is survived by three daughters and their families, Debbie, Dave, Alex and Taylor Camp of Garland, TX; Cyndi, John, Steele Nash and Madison Wells of Anaheim, CA; and Marcee, Wayne, Brandon, Chase and Mackenzie Moss of Albuquerque; two sisters, Verna South of North Little Rock, AR and Tootsie Rodgers of Lubbock, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jo Roberts; brother, Odell Roberts; and brothers-in-law, Rheubin L. South and Swain Rodgers. Fred married Betty Jo Harrell on February 21, 1948, in Clovis, NM. He was a highly decorated veteran of WWII. Fred was a captain in the Army Air-Corp, piloting B-17 bombers. He was wounded when his plane was shot down October 15, 1944, flying his 32nd mission over Germany. He returned to fly four more missions before being honorably discharged on December 29, 1945. During his service Fred was awarded a Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart, among others. Fred was a Real Estate Broker and owned his own business for approximately 30 years. He was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying bird hunting with his buddies, the late Bob Brooks, Vernon Andress and Bokey Atterberry. Fred enjoyed hunting and golfing with son-in-law, Dave Camp. He received immense joy following the soccer career of his grandson, Brandon Moss, for the past 20 years. One of his strongest attributes was his love of family, always placing their needs and best interest above his own. Fred was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ, baptized by Bill Banowsky on April 19, 1961. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join us to "Celebrate His Life" at Netherwood Park Church of Christ, 5101 Indian School Rd.
