Obituary for EVANS

Jacob A. Evans, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1984, passed away on December 29, 2006. He is survived by his daughters, Carol Evans of Skokie, IL, Jacqueline Gause of Ellensburg, WA, and Dorothy Evans-Weis of Salem, MO; and sons, Stephen Evans of Centennial, CO and Frank Evans of La Garita, CO; grandchildren, Rachelle Evans of Chicago, IL, Jeremy Evans, of Sacramento, CA, Emily and Michael Gause of Ellensburg, WA, Kathryn and Matthew Evans of Centennial, CO; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Hayes of Centennial, CO; and a brother, W. Frank Evans of Nashville, TN. Since his move to Albuquerque, he taught Music Appreciation at UNM Continuing Ed for 10 years, and was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels since 1993. From 1976 until 1984, he had his own TV advertising consultancy firm in Los Alamos serving stations KOAT, Albuquerque, KOA-TV, Denver KTSM, El Paso, KFDA Amarillo and KMID Midland. Community service in Los Alamos included president of the Los Alamos Concert Association, Music Director of the Los Alamos Light Opera, Associate Director of the Los Alamos Choral Society, and co-author of Los Alamos-The First Forty Years, published in 1984. Prior to "retiring" to New Mexico, he spent 15 years in New York, NY as a media executive, including Director of Advertising and Promotion for NBC Television, Bulova Account Executive at Mc-Cann Erickson, and an editor at Hearst's American Weekly. He spent his entire 15 years in Chicago as Vice-President of the Central Division of the Television Bureau of Advertising. During WWII he was director of the 313th Wing Band, which played GI shows for personal on Tinian in the Marianas from which the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in 1945. A Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
