Obituary for STEWART

Donald B. Stewart, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 19, 2006. A resident of Albuquerque since 1953, he was an avid outdoorsman, especially fond of fishing and hunting. He was born on July 21, 1923 in Washington, D.C. and graduated from the Washington University School of Medicine. He was a caring physician, specializing in Internal Medicine. He spent many years at Lovelace Clinic and was on staff when NASA sent future astronauts to Lovelace for medical evaluation. He was one of the attending physicians for the first seven astronauts. In 1974, he left Lovelace for private practice and retired in 1989. Even in retirement, he continued to provide medical services to nursing homes and state organizations. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rita; children, Don, Bill and wife, Beth, Barbara and husband, Randy Chavez, Michael and wife, Dani, Jeb and wife, Cindy, Holly and husband, Larry Purigraski, Charlie and wife, Roberta Morris as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service for the family has been held.
