Obituary for THOMAS

Staff Sergeant Major (Retired) William Eugene Thomas went to join our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 15, 2006. He was born in Norfolk, VA on April 11, 1937. William joined the US Army in 1956 and served his country for 30 years before honorably retiring in 1986. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army commendation Medal. After retiring from the military, he worked for Aetna Life and Casualty, the Department of Defense, Wal-Mart, and Haley Paint in El Paso, TX. William also worked as a Junior ROTC Instructor at Hollywood High School in Hollywood, CA, and Albuquerque High School in Albuquerque. He generously volunteered his services whenever needed. William loved and served the Lord as an active member of God's House Church in Albuquerque. He was a lifetime member of the Lion's Club, participating in El Paso, TX and Hollywood, CA chapters where he served in numerous positions including Chapter President. William was preceded in death by his wife Shirley J. Thomas; parents, William and Alice Thomas; Brother Aronious Quinn Thomas; and sister, Esther Mae Bruce. He is survived by his four daughters, Cynthia Thomas, El Paso, TX, Gwendolyn Thomas, Moline, IL, Gina Thomas, Santa Fe, NM, Tammy Sanders, Monterrey, CA; son, Vincent and wife, Angela; and two grandchildren Zaxary and Sara, both of Rio Rancho; bother, Glenn Preston Thomas, Richmond, VA; sister, Geneva Charlene Ortner, Marietta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, and loving friends; a close friend, Shirley Thomas, of El Paso, TX. Services will be held Friday, December 22, 2006, 10:00 at God's House Church, 2335 Wyoming Blvd NE, with Bishop Michael Shelby officiating, Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
