Obituary for STONE

Harold Stone, 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Tuesday, December 19, 2006, losing a battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat Stone; two children, Richard Stone of Seattle, WA and Carol Ruff and husband, David, of Albuquerque; his much loved granddaughter, Alison Ruff of Albuquerque; sister, Bettie J. Culp and husband, Jim, of Houston, TX; and several other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Ethel Stone of Las Vegas, NM. He was born on April 9, 1933 in Childress, TX and grew up in Las Vegas, NM. Harold was a graduate of NM Highlands University in 1956 and received his MA there in 1961. He was a teacher and administrator in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 31 years, mainly at Cleveland Middle School. Harold was a loyal Lobo Club member and a supporter of Men's and Women's basketball programs. He was a hard worker in the Albuquerque Rose Society for many years and helped plan, plant, and maintain the Albuquerque Rose Garden. Harold will be remembered for his devotion to his wife Pat, and to his family, for his beautiful rose garden, his woodworking skills, and his photography and last, but not least his affection for his little grey kitty, Roxanna. Cremation has taken place and his family is honoring his request that no funeral service be held. Should friends desire to honor Harold's memory, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Albuquerque Rose Society Memorial Fund, 9601 Pebble Beach Dr. NE, 87111. Such funds will be used for the perpetual maintenance of the Albuquerque Rose Garden.
