Obituary for WEIS

Frances Rose Weis passed away on Friday, December 8, 2006, in Albuquerque, NM, at the age of 101. She was born on May 27, 1905, a daughter of George and Mary Hartzheim Bastian on the family farm near Brownsville, WI. She attended rural grade school and was a graduate of Fond du Lac Senior High School, Class of 1924. She worked as a secretary and jewelry repair person for Glasow and Lightman, a wholesale jewelry firm for several years. On July 5, 1924, she married Edwin F. Weis (former Mayor of Fond du Lac) in Menominee, MI. Two daughters were born to this union, Joan in 1935 and Geraldine in 1941. They resided in Fond du Lac until July 1957 and then moved to Chadron, NE, where Ed was City Manager for the next twelve years. After his death in 1970, Frances moved back to Wisconsin where she resided at the Carriage House and the Rosiland Apartments until the age of 92. At that time, she moved to Albuquerque, NM, to live with her daughter, Joan Kaiser. She attended the Bear Canyon "Share Your Care" Adult Day Care Center for the past seven years. Here she enjoyed arts and crafts, bingo, dominos and eating out. Frances was a Charter Member and Past President of the Fond du Lac Eagles Auxiliary Aerie #270, a member of United Commercial Travelers, and a member of the Altar Guild of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended the Wisconsin School for the Blind Summer School in Jefferson, WI for many years. Frances is survived by two daughters: Joan Kaiser and Geraldine (Donald) Lawson, both of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin on January 10, 1970; two brothers and a sister. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, on Sunday, December 10, 2006, at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in her name to Share Your Care, PO Box 35101, Albuquerque, or to the charity of your choice.
