Caroline Hays Ostertag unexpectedly went home to her Lord on December 1, 2006 in Ulm, Germany. She was 72 years old. Services are not planned at this time. A celebration of Caroline's life will be held in February or March in Albuquerque, NM. Caroline was born November 25, 1934 in Des Moines, IA. She married Richard A. Hays in 1956. Caroline graduated from Iowa State in 1956. She later received a masters in Health Education from the University of New Mexico. Her first husband, Richard, died in 1986. She married Horst L. Ostertag in 1991 and moved to Ulm, Germany. Caroline and Horst split their time between Germany, New Mexico, California and Oregon. Caroline was an active member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, NM and when she moved to Germany became an active member of the Erloeser Methodist church. Survived by husband, Horst Ostertag of Ulm, Germany; daughter, Katherine Hays of Prunedale, CA; son, Daniel Hays of Albuquerque, NM; brother, Edward Capesius of Colorado Springs, CO; and sister, Joann Garrott of Maryville, TN. Caroline had a positive effect on so many people on both sides of the Atlantic. She was always willing to open up her heart and home to people she met.
