Obituary for SAMPSON

JAMES B. Lt. Col. Ret. James B. Sampson, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990, passed away November 29, 2006. Jim was born in Albuquerque on September 3, 1929 and after 2 weeks was taken home to Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Belle (Barton) Sampson and a brother, George Jr. Jim graduated from Arizona State University and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in May of 1951. During Jim's 21 years of military service, he actively flew in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in the Washington, DC area. In 1985 he moved to Tucson, AZ and became an alcohol and substance abuse counselor and volunteered in the capacity for 5 years at the VA Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Janie; three daughters, Susan, Carol, and Leslie; two stepsons, Joe and David. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday December 5, 2006 in the chapel at Daniels Family Funeral Services.
