Obituary for FERNANDEZ

Yolanda C. Fernandez, 53, a resident of Albuquerque for many years died Monday, November 27, 2006. Yolanda was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Arellano Fernandez. She is survived by her father, Polo M. Fernandez and wife, Molly of Springer; brothers, Polo David Fernandez and partner, Gloria Sevilla of Santa Teresa, Philip A. Fernandez of Ruidoso, Anthony Fernandez, and George E. Fernandez, both of Santa Fe; sister, Kathleen E. Fernandez of Santa Fe; uncle, Alfonso Arellano and wife, Fuzzy; aunt, Dolores Arellano, all of Springer; and many cousins. She is also survived by her good friend and caregiver, Hope Alcon of Albuquerque. She worked for many years at a group home in San Cristobal, NM before moving to Albuquerque to work with the Department of Labor. Over the years, she kept in contact with many of the children from the home. Despite her ailments, Ms. Fernandez remained a very happy and jolly person. She always championed the underdog and was always doing something for somebody. Yolanda was a great cook, and also did beautiful knitting, beadwork, and needlepoint. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springer at a later date.
