Obituary for MILLER

Wayne Miller, a resident of Albuquerque since 1943, quietly took his last checkered flag on Sunday, November 26, 2006. Wayne was born near Salem, IN on August 22, 1919, the youngest of eight children to Sam and Lillian Miller, all deceased. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Maxine and daughter-in-law, Sue Miller. Wayne is survived by his son, Jerry; grandsons, Jerry, Jr. and Jeff Miller; four great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons; and his best friend, Nita Roush. He made his living for over 60 years in the car business, both on his own and as the Used Car Manager of many local dealerships, receiving numerous awards and recognitions. Wayne's lifetime passion was auto racing, both as a driver and car owner. As a driver he was the 1952 NMMRA Champion and 1954 Rocky Mountain Midget Champion. He was the car owner for Jerry Miller NMMRA Champion in 1966 and Larry Demaree in 1975. Wayne was a mentor to his son, grandsons and many others in their pursuits in auto racing. He was instrumental in the restoration of several vintage race cars, one being part of the Unser Museum. Wayne was a lifetime member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J. USA, Past Master of Hiram Lodge #13 in 1951 and a member of Ballut Abayad Temple. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, November 30, 2006, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Friday, December 1, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor John M. Embery officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. The family would like to thank Zia Hospice and Wayne's many friends.
