Bernice Gehrke McHale Decker was born May 12, 1908 and passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2006. In 1929 she graduated from the University of Michigan where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After teaching English and Journalism for several years in Hastings, MI, she moved to Mt. Pleasant, MI, with her late husband, Mendal Decker. In recent years she has made her home in Albuquerque. She is survived by daughters, Diane Sloves and husband, Matthew, and Linda Caprio and husband, Al; grandsons, Douglas Bailey and wife, Kathy, John Bailey and wife, Deborah, David Sloves and wife, Pamela, Jonathan Sloves and wife, Dianna, and Andrew Sloves and wife, Erin; 12 great-grandchildren; Lucas, Nicole, and Kendall Bailey, Miranda and Ryan Bailey, Alexandra and Stephanie Sloves, Jacqueline and Griffin Sloves, Claudia, Jason, and Remy Sloves. The family wants to thank the dedicated staff at Valle Norte Caring Center for helping our mother through these last difficult years. Cremation has taken place.
