Obituary for SCHUMACHER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday November 19, 2006

Eunice "Fritzie" A. Schumacher, 81, died of cancer early Friday morning, November 17, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Albert "Al" E. Schumacher. She will be remembered and missed by her children, Robert and wife, Joy, James and wife, Cathy, Kay and husband, Dave, and Kara and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Jim, Marie, Erin, Ian, and Kyle; sisters, Helen, Gladys and husband, Tex, and Hazel; brother, Virgil; brother-in-law, Ray and wife, Marion; and friends, many of whom she made on-line in later life. All were blessed to know her charming sense of humor and generous spirit. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 8, 1925, Eunice grew up in Kansas. She worked for the telephone company in Boulder, Colorado, where she met Al, who was attending the University of Colorado. In 1953, she moved with him to Albuquerque. Her curiosity was boundless and resulted in many adventures, including raising an ostrich for the Albuquerque Zoo in the 1960's. Eunice had a life long love of words from poetry to word puzzles and she could delight you just by the way she strung them together. Late in life, despite vision problems, she tackled computers and the Internet. She leaves her children and grandchildren with a legacy of kindness, determination, respect for others, generosity, inquisitiveness, and love. Her children plan to have a private memorial service in the future. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to Cure Autism Now (www.cureautismnow.org). When Eunice's mother died, she wrote the following poem which we share here in love of her: Mother, it's time to say good-bye All the years went rushing by All our love to you, so dear All our tears won't keep you here To all you loved, you gave so much All your children keep in touch You taught us well how we should live What joy to sing! What joy to give! To laugh, to love, and always smile. We know we'll see you in a while. French Mortuary, Inc. 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400
