Obituary for FREEMAN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday November 08, 2006

Ada Mae (Hall) Freeman, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Belen, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 6, 2006. She is survived by her son, Ralph C. (Butch) Freeman III and wife, Melissa; daughter, Venetia Yates and husband, David, all of Los Chavez; grandchildren, Jesse Yates and wife, Darcy of Albuquerque, Micah Yates and Meghan Yates of Los Chavez; Christine (Freeman) Wester and husband, Brian, and Becky Freeman, all of Albuquerque; nieces, Olivia Campbell of Cincinnati, OH and Debbie Booher of Maysville, KY; and her best friend and dance partner, Jim VanCourt of Albuquerque. Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. U.S. Army Maj. Ralph C. Freeman, Jr.; her parents, Harry and Lula Hall; brother, Harold Hall; and sister, Laverne Banks, all of Ohio. Mae's mother raised her to know and love God and beautiful church music; it was a major part of her life and she was a church pianist and organist for many years. She was a current member of Monterey Baptist Church where her music was enjoyed for several years. Mrs. Freeman was primarily a wife and homemaker, but she also pursued other interests such as playing bridge, she was a topnotch bowler for many years, loved to dance, played high school basketball, and she received training as a Red Cross Gray Lady volunteer. She loved travel and throughout her husband's military career enjoyed European destinations, particularly following the end of WWII. At one point she was a business owner having operated a donut and sandwich shop on Main St. in Belen, having learned about business from her dear father who once owned a general store. She often talked about how he served the public during the depression and made allowances in those difficult times. Mae had an independent and confident spirit, always willing to work hard at any pursuit, served her family and gave of herself willingly, and she will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2006, 1:30 p.m., at Monterey Baptist Church, 12501 Lomas Blvd. NE. Private interment of cremated remains has taken place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Mae loved pink carnations, but you may choose to make a memorial contribution to a church or charity of your choice. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
