Obituary for COLE

Jeannie Campbell Tudor Cole, our beloved wife and mother, died Sunday, November 5, 2006 of complications following major heart surgery. She will be greatly missed. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh J. Tudor (1986) and Eugenia M. Ellis (1997), and a brother, Stephen H. Tudor (1994). Jeannie is survived by her husband, Leon M. Cole; three children, Kenneth T. Cole, Kevin R. Cole, and Susanna E. Cole; a brother, William Ellis Tudor. Born in 1934 in Silver City, NM, Jeannie and her family moved to Indianapolis, IN in 1942, and to Omaha, NE in 1943. In 1946 her family moved to Tacoma, WA. There she attended Annie Wright Seminary, and graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, in 1952. She earned a BA degree, majoring in English, from the University of Washington in 1956, and subsequently completed a year of graduate study in education for a teaching certificate. After teaching in the Seattle public schools, she married Leon Cole in 1961. She then lived and taught in Cambridge and Lexington, MA; Washington, DC; Austin, TX; and Bethesda, MD. She also worked at the National Biophysical Society and at The Society of the Cincinnati in Washington, DC. Throughout her working career she remained a loving wife, mother, and homemaker for her family. Jeannie was an accomplished athlete and a superior tennis player. She enjoyed hiking and camping and was a member of the New Mexico Mountain Club. While a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, she volunteered at Dismas House and at the church food bank. She also was a volunteer English tutor for Albuquerque's disadvantaged children. Her ashes will be placed in the Columbarium at the Arlington National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Rd. NW, in Albuquerque, on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW, ABQ. 505-343-8008
