Obituary for SOLBERG

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday October 13, 2006

Melvin P. Solberg, 99, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away peacefully in his home with his family present on Tuesday, October 10, 2006. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary Solberg; four children, Barbara LeBow, Karen Thomasson, Patsy King, and Michael Solberg; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Orvin Solberg. His parents were Norwegian immigrants who settled North Dakota. Mel was born and raised in Brinsmade, ND, where he lived a simple life on the farm. He attended the Dakota Business College, the State University of Iowa in the College of Engineering, La Salle University, and the University of Minnesota. He became licensed as a CPA in three different states and owned his own firm from 1952 through 1976 after coming to Albuquerque, and was a consultant from 1976 through 1986. Mel served as president of NOMA and the Lions Club and was a faithful member of Our Lady Fatima Parish for 54 years. He was a great husband and father who was devoted to his church, family, friends, and career; and a man of integrity whom we will miss greatly. He always said, "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I wouldn't have retired so early!" We wish to express our sincere, deep gratitude to the nurses and aides of Presbyterian Hospice; they are angels here on Earth. We would also like to express our special appreciation to Bill, Julia, Traudi, and Joseph. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, October 16, 2006, 12:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas NE. Mass will be celebrated immediately following the Rosary on Monday, 1:00 p.m., with Father Francis X. Eggert celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his son, Michael Solberg, son-in-law, Marty King, and grandsons, David Armijo IV, John Pinkerton, Tim King, and George LeBow. In the place of flowers, we request that memorial contributions be made to the Animal Humane Association, 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
