Obituary for PARKER

Archie Robert Parker, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Jean; Robert Parker and his wife, Mary, all of Albuquerque, and Fran Parker of Grand Junction, CO; other family; and many friends. Archie was born in Columbus, MS. He graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and received his Master's of Divinity from Duke University Divinity School in Durham, NC. Archie served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was an Air Force Chaplain for over 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he served as assistant pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Albuquerque for eight years. He remained active at First United Methodist Church until shortly before his death. His last important role was as Resident Council President at the La Vida Llena Retirement Community. A kind and gentle soul, he will be remembered for his warm smile, his generosity, his selflessness, his unconditional love for his family and friends, AND his peanut brittle! Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 15, 2006, 3:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. David Okerberg officiating. A second Memorial Service will take place Monday, October 16, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at La Vida Llena Retirement Community, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, with Rev. Gerry Lightwine officiating. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Kids Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW. Albuquerque, NM 87102, in lieu of flowers.
