Obituary for HERNANDEZ

Natividad "Nettie" Hernandez, passed away Friday, September 29, 2006 at home surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was born to Antonio L. Martinez and Trenquelina Madril in Cerro, NM on October 4, 1926. Nettie was one of two surviving children of nine other siblings. As a young woman, Nettie relocated to Raton, where she met and later married guitarist and entertainer, Sotero "Ramon" Hernandez. Following the birth of their first son, and upon his return from military service, Nettie and Ramon took up residence at Dawson, NM. Ramon went to work as a miner, she as a housewife. Their second son was born before the mine closed and the family relocated to Taos, about 1950. Two more children; another son and a daughter were born during this period. Thereafter, in 1954 Nettie and the children moved to Albuquerque, where she resided until her death. Nettie remarried and gave birth to a daughter and three more sons. A total of six sons and two daughters were born to Nettie's family. She raised her family in a warm, caring, loving environment and left them with this legacy upon her passing. Nettie was a devout Jehovah's Witness, for many years, and relied on her faith to guide her and her family. She is survived by her eight children: Tony and wife, Carol of Las Cruces, Vincente and wife, Nancy of La Cienega; daughters, Raquel Sandoval of Albuquerque, Yolanda Gallegos and husband, Eutimio of Edgewood; son, Ruben of Albuquerque; three youngest sons, David Martinez and wife, Elaine of Albuquerque, Phillip Martinez and wife, Mary of Belen and Benjamin Martinez of Albuquerque; brother, Claudio Martinez and wife, Lucy of Salida, CO; nephew, Manuel Hernandez and wife, Sylvia and family of Corrales; niece, Ida Garcia of El Paso, TX; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as many fellow witnesses and friends. Nettie was preceded in death by former husband, Ramon and his mother, Mercedes, her son, Gene passed away shortly after his birth in Dawson. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2006, 3:00 p.m., at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, 501 San Clemente NW, with Elder John Schouman officiating.
