Obituary for SHAW

Raymer F. Shaw, Jr., 85, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2006, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born on August 16, 1921, to Raymer F. Sr. and Lillian Faye (Yates) Shaw in Brownsville, TX. However, most of his youth was spent growing up in the mining town of Dawson, NM. When America entered WWII, Raymer enlisted in the Army and served in England as a bomb sight repairman. While serving in England, he met his wife, June Parkin from Sheffield, England. Following the war, he brought her to America on the Queen Mary. He then enrolled at Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in History and later a Master's Degree in Education. While raising a young family, he then completed his Master's Degree in Administration at the University of New Mexico. For forty years, he served NM's small and rural communities as a teacher, coach and principle. He retired to Rio Rancho, NM to continue his life of traditional values and continual learning. He will be remembered for his kindness, quiet fortitude, and a gentle interest in others. Throughout his life, he had a keen interest in history, nature, gardening, reading, and collecting Southwest Artifacts. Raymer is survived by his three sons, Raymer W. Shaw, Paul F. Shaw, and Curt S. Shaw; three grandchildren, Raymer Lee Shaw, Chesney Lynn Sampson and Raymer Wendell Shaw; two brothers, Quincy Shaw and John Shaw; and one sister, Iris Coleman. Raymer was preceded in death by his wife, June Parkin, and his mother and father. He will be sadly missed, and May He Rest in Peace. Graveside Services will be Saturday, September 30, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at Vista Verde Cemetery, Rio Rancho, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating.
