Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday September 09, 2006

Tim Saska, 71, a resident of New Mexico since 2003, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006. Born in Dayton, OH, Tim Saska was raised in the small town of Howell, MI. After high school he moved to California and graduated from San Jose State University in 1959 with a BFA. He received an MFA from Columbia University two years later and in 1969 earned an MA in Art History from Indiana University. Following this, he taught for a number of years. Tim devoted himself full time to his painting beginning in 1980 and was Artist in Residence in Lufkin, TX. His forte was large-scale acrylic urban and rural landscape paintings, imparting a luminosity of color that shimmers like outdoor light. Tim Saska said "I am an observer, watching the passing of the seasons and the changes it brings to the landscape." He has shown his work throughout the country; his work is featured in numerous corporate and private collections including those of Amoco, EDS, Methodist Hospital, American General, Citicorp, and Marathon Oil. His paintings are currently shown in the Peterson-Cody Gallery in Santa Fe and the Harris Gallery in Houston. He is survived by his brother, Robert Saska, of Texas; his beloved companion, Joyce Freiwald; and his many friends throughout the country. Of particular note, Tim remained close with many of his high school friends in spite of the years and miles. Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 9, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE.
