Obituary for MATHIS

Lona May Mathis was entered into the presence of her Lord on August 24, 2006. Mrs. Mathis was born in Abernathy, TX, May 11, 1921. She was a retired accountant and business proprietor. Mrs. Mathis lived and worked in Silver City, NM for over 50 years. She was a Baptist and a founding member of the 24 Club in Silver City. She retired and relocated to Texarkana, TX twelve years ago. Mrs. Mathis was known to all as a kind and compassionate person. Her family was her heart's pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Mathis III, and her son, James Welsh. She is survived by her son, Robert W. Mathis IV of Idyllwild, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Marji and Bill Fuerst and grandsons, Alex Fuerst and John Fuerst of Texarkana, TX. Other family members include Warren Welsh and Barbara Chase of St. Albans, VT; Laura and Dave Sandison of Edgewood, NM; Elizabeth Welsh of Silver City, NM; Anita and Frank Troup, Willie and Nita Brewer, and Vella Mae Brewer, all of Albuquerque, NM; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews in New Mexico, Texas, and California. A Memorial Service was held Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, Texarkana, TX. Final Services and interment will be held in Albuquerque, NM, 10 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2006, with Dr. Richard Hornok officiating.
