Katherine (Katie) Chavez, 80, died on Sunday. She was the matriarch of the family and will be missed dearly. Her devotion to family and friends will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fidel Chavez; and brothers, Antonio, Warren, Rueben, Willie, Veto (Albert), and Tomas Sanchez. Mrs. Chavez is survived by her sons, Steven E. Apodaca and wife, Liz, James Apodaca and wife, Katherine; daughters, Elizabeth (Janet) Garcia Lobato and husband, Joe, and Diana Pacheco; sisters, Helen Lovato and husband, Faustino, Isabel Sanchez, and Marcella Quintana and husband, Joe; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A visitation for Mrs. Chavez will be Tuesday from 3 - 5 p.m. in the Reflection of Life Chapel (Washington and Cutler NE). Rosary will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Life Celebration Mass will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rey, Patrick, and Chris Apodaca, Tim Sanchez, Johnny Pacheco, and Paul Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Carol Alderete, Danny S. Apodaca, Robert Lee Sanchez, and Lorraine Varela.
