Obituary for MILLS

Richard E. Mills, 74, a resident of Los Lunas, loving husband, father and friend, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006. He is survived by the love of his life for 53 years, Josephine Mills; two daughters, Kathy Freed and Darlene Jaramillo and husband, Joseph; stepdaughter, Mary Lou Sorrels and husband, Earl; three grandchildren, Briana, Caleb and Lauren; step-granddaughter, Angel Marie; two step-great-granddaughters, Safire and Koral; sister, Zelma Tallman; brother, Bob Mills, both of Buchannon, West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Mills. He was born March 25, 1932 in Sand Run, West Virginia to Loren Mills and Trecie Tenney Mills. Mr. Mills joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He participated in A-Bomb testing at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. Mr. Mills served as a Military Police. He was stationed at Sandia Base in 1951 and that is when he decided to make Albuquerque his home. Mr. Mills was employed at ACF for 14 years then retired from G.E. in 1986 after 28 years. He loved raising cattle and working his two ranches in Mountainair. Mr. and Mrs. Mills enjoyed square dancing, traveling in their RV and spending time with their grandchildren. He enjoyed going to McDonald's in Bosque Farms every morning to have coffee with his buddies and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He was a devout member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Mr. Mills was also a member of Siglo de Oro RV club, American Legion Post #49, and a lifetime Good Sam member. Mr. Mills was a kind gentle loving man who always had a smile on his face and touched the lives of so many people throughout his life. He will be greatly missed, yet held in our hearts and memories forever. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Sunday, August 27, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. and the Rosary will follow at 4:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 28, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Interment will take place Monday, August 28, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Caleb Freed, Larry Purcella, Michael Sanchez, Ronnie Purcella, Jeff Garcia and Mark Marez. Honorary pallbearers will be Briana and Lauren Jaramillo. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 2, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. A reception will follow the Mass in the Parish Hall.
