Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday August 03, 2006

Ernest E. (Ed) Gould Jr., age 69, a resident of Pendaries Village in Rociada, NM, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at his home. Ed was born in Parsons, KS and grew up with Sister Shirley in the Osawattomie area. After high school graduation he attended Pittsburgh University. His 1st employment was with the State Mental Hospital in Kansas and his love of people enabled him to become a manager of 3 separate wards in a short period of time. In 1959 he married Donna Jean Wark and moved to Culver City, CA and had a career in financing. While in Culver City, daughter, Sarah was born in 1961. A promotion brought the family to Santa Fe in 1962 and while there son Bradley was born in 1963. He transferred to Albuquerque with Household Finance and was in management with them until going to work for Allstate Insurance in 1965. He was a valued employee and became an exclusive agent for them, winning many awards for customer satisfaction, performance and top production. During his 33 years with Allstate, he became the first agent to open his own independent agency. He sold his insurance agency in 1999 and officially retired in 2000. Before retiring, Ed was very active at St. Paul's United Methodist Church serving as Chairman of Finance and Lay Leader. He was later an active member of Central United Methodist Church. Ed was President of the Rio Rancho Men's Golf Association and president/board member of Pueblo Los Cerros Condo Association. Sherry Dunbar entered Ed's life in l988 and quickly won his heart. They knew from the first day they met that they were soul mates and married in 1990. Their wedding day touched people's hearts so much, as did everything with Ed. Ed's new family included daughter, Heather, and he grew to love her as his own. They honeymooned in Cape Cod and on Martha's Vineyard where they later vacationed many times and eventually bought a home. They both worked very hard in their careers and started taking time for each other early in their married life. Knowing that the pace had to settle down, they built a second home in Northern New Mexico on the 5th fairway of the golf resort known as Pendaries. Ed liked to call #5 his "Home Hole". He was an accomplished golfer enjoying his most fulfilling golf both at Rio Rancho Country Club and then Pendaries. He was also an avid fly fisherman. He and son Brad enjoyed numerous fishing trips together in the past few years, if Ed and Sherry weren't golfing or fishing they were enjoying their travels. Their most recent passion was spending time in their RV, and visiting friends and family including grandchildren in Texas and Arizona and in-laws, John and Helen Henry. He and John were golfing buddies and so enjoyed each other's company. John became the father that Ed never had. Ed was a proud father and enjoyed his family immensely. Although sudden, Ed's passing was without him suffering. His memory and legacy will live on forever in our hearts and minds. He will be missed, but we know he's in God's hands and it is such a blessing to all of us. He was preceded in death by his mother: Iona Ader; children (triplets): Richard, Paul, and David. He is survived by his loving wife: Sherry Gould of Pendaries Village in Rociada, NM; son: Brad Gould and wife, Lonelle of Scottsdale, AZ; daughters: Sarah Wynn and husband, Mike of Scottsdale, AZ and Heather Bickel and husband, Eric of College Station, TX; sister: Shirley Gray and husband, Alan of San Carlos, Mexico; grandsons: Thomas Ahearn of Scottsdale, AZ and Ryan Bickel of College Station, TX; granddaughter: Lauren Bickel of College Station, TX; nephews: Dirk Gray and wife, Lois of Santa Fe, NM and Greg Gray of Rio Rancho, NM; father and mother-in-law: John and Helen Henry.
