Virginia I. Benavides, 70, passed away at her home with her loving family on July 29, 2006. Virginia was born July 8, 1936 in Carrizozo, NM. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Gilbert; children, Gilbert (Larry) and wife, Linda, Benji, Regina Gutierrez and husband, Marty; brothers, Julio and wife, Irene St. John, Chris St. John, Henry Espinosa and wife, Mary, Richard Espinosa and wife, Joveta, Rey St. John and wife, Myra, Ralph St. John and wife, Carmen, Sammy St. John and wife, Lisa; sister, Gloria Moore and husband, Raymond, Loretta Lopez and husband, Rueben, Belen Balestros and husband, Joe, Lydia Mellado and husband, Robert, Wanda Chavez Mitchell, and Tony Sanchez who were raised like sister and brother; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Lell St. John and Placida Espinosa; and by her grandparents, Ambrosio and Rosa Sanchez who raised her on Anderson Street; and a very special aunt, Pola Pacheco. Mrs. Benavides was a member of Queen of Heaven Church, Miraculous Medal, M.S. Association, and Sacred Heart League. She retired from Digital Electronics. She attended St. Frances Xavier and Albuquerque High School. Pallbearers will be Ray Moore Jr., Lawnie Benavides, Benjamin Benavides, Nicolas Benavides, Phillip Benavides, Michael Stang, and Rico Carrasco. Rosary will be recited on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Church. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Church 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE; private burial will take place at a later date.
